Market day in Alaçatı is an experience all on its own — and one of the highlights of travelling through western Türkiye.
The vibrant farmers’ market bursts with colour: sun-ripened tomatoes, fragrant herbs, plump olives, handmade cheeses, and spices that scent the air before you even see them. My ladies tasted, touched, asked questions, and connected with local vendors in that beautiful way women do — with warmth and curiosity.
Scarves were tried on. Linen dresses admired. Handwoven textiles carefully folded into already-full suitcases.
There is something so special about shopping in Alaçatı when you buy directly from the hands that made or grew what you are taking home.
And of course… bargaining with smiles. Always with smiles.
Flavours of the Aegean: What to Eat in Alaçatı
Between the shopping, we indulged in the simple pleasures of Aegean cuisine.
Fresh meze. Warm bread. Olive oil so pure it almost glows. Sweet little almond biscuits that disappear far too quickly.
Meals were long. Conversations even longer.
